Lionel Messi makes Sergio Ramos look silly before scoring in El Clasico friendly in Miami

The last time Sergio Ramos and Lionel Messi met, the Spaniard was sent off for an awful tackle on the Barcelona star.

It came during a crucial El Clasico at the Bernabeu in which Barca needed to beat Real Madrid to stand any chance of overhauling them in the title race.

And Ramos’ shocking red card helped Barca triumph 3-2 thanks to a last-gasp winner from Messi himself.

Three months on, Ramos and Messi went head-to-head once again. This time the stakes weren’t quite as high as they played in an International Champions Cup friendly in Miami.

Nonetheless, it was still an El Clasico and both sides wanted to get early bragging rights.

But it was Barcelona who, once again, triumphed 3-2 over their rivals – mainly thanks to Messi once again.

The Argentine gave Ernesto Valverde’s men the lead with a deflected strike within three minutes.

Inside seven minutes, Barca were two-up as Neymar’s pass found Ivan Rakitic, who fired home.

Fellow Croatian, Mateo Kovacic, pulled one back for Real Madrid in the 14th minute before Marco Asensio finished off a brilliant Madrid break to level before half-time.

But Barca dominated the game and got the win they deserved through Gerard Pique.

Neymar swung in a free-kick from the left and Pique was left totally unmarked and was able to side foot the ball home.

But it was a moment between Ramos and Messi we want to focus on.

During the first-half, Ramos tried diving in to win the ball off Messi. But the five-time Ballon d’Or winner had other ideas.

He nipped the ball past the defender, leaving him falling to the ground and looking on in despair.

With Ramos out of position, Messi picked up the ball from Sergio Busquets and opened the scoring via a heavy deflection.

Luckily for us football fans, we only have to wait another two weeks for yet another El Clasico. In fact, there will be two in the space of three days as Barca and Real do battle in the two-legged Spanish Super Cup.

The first leg takes place at the Camp Nou on August 13, before the return match at the Bernabeu on August 16.

Ramos will no doubt be keeping a close eye on Messi in the hope he doesn’t get embarrassed once again.
