Seyi Makinde, the governor of Oyo State, Nyesom Wike, the former governor of Rivers State, and James Ibori former governor of Delta State, were in the Presidential Villa in Abuja yesterday to support President Bola Tinubu in his call to end petroleum subsidies. The group arrived at the State House on Friday at 4:20.
Between 1999 and 2007, Ibori and President Tinubu served as governors, while Wike recently resigned after eight years in service. Wike and Makinde are PDP members and part of the G-5 group of governors that worked against Atiku Abubakar, the party’s presidential nominee, during the February 25 elections.
When asked why they were there, Makinde responded, “To let him know that he has started well and he has the backing of the generality of the people.”
When asked if they talked about the subsidy issue, he responded, “Yes, we did. It’s a topic that the public is now debating most. We know this is a difficult choice for the people, and he needs everyone’s help to carry it out.
